Wow! 15,000 nicely armed Marines clear Marjah of 500 insurgents
The success is undeniable 15,000 nicely trained, well armed Marines, with air support, satellites and drones flying intelligence flights can drive out 500 rag tag Taliban fighters in a town of 80,000.
Marjah is called a Taliban stronghold. Lets see whin the facts are. The town has 80,000 residents. The US estimated the Taliban force in the town at between 500 and 1,000 fighters. Is that a forced massive enough to hold the town captive against their will?
Based on our guru military commanders it isnt. So why is Marjah called a Taliban STRONGHOLD?
Well it makes it sound like a bigger victory and a far more heroic effort. In reality the Taliban was mostly local, they lived within the town at the same time as they were allowed by the 80,000 residents to stay there. Even in a remote village the people have guns and if they didnt need 500 to 1,000 Taliban inside the town they would have thrown them out.
The odds in this battle were 15 to one or perhaps even 30 to one, with the US Marines Having advanced air craft, tanks, arconsiderably mored vehicles and intelligence.
It was a close call all of the way along with the UN/US (quite the US Marines) along with several Afghan Army forces, that mostly watched the Marines do all the work, finally by means of incredible effort won the non-battle battle.
In reality most of the so called fighters, amateurs by any measure when compared with highly trained Marines, ran away.
Marjah was selected as the target by the US military to provide a rapidly and effortless conquest and a success story. The US military leadership admits this so why all the hoopla?
It would be a small like a 28 year old 185 pound man going next door and beating up a six year old girl too as then celebrating the battle.
Actually the biggest story to come out of this non-battle battle in Marjah was the killing of 27 innocent civilians by the US forces, many of those killed women and children.
Are we here in America now safer? Nope. Will this make the Taliban leav ...[ ]
